Pocket Bikes

Pocket Bikes which sometimes are called mini motos are just what they sound like, miniature motorcycles. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that pocket bikes are just toys, as they can reach impressive speeds and have an excellent power-to-weight ratio.

Pocket bikes are a cheaper and easier way to reach the thrill and excitement of a full size motorcycle without all the danger, which means that they are perfect for racing. They include all the features of full size motorcycles and are usually modeled and proportioned after their larger cousins. Another aspect that makes them so popular is their size and lightness. A pocket bike will be very easy to transport and store. They will fit into a normal sized trunk. A racing mini bikes quickness and maneuverability is a result of design and engineering with a emphasis on light materials such as an chrome and steel frame and ABS plastic. There are two common variants of mini bikes, electric or gas driven.

Electric vs. Gas Driven Pocket Bikes

As a general rule a gas driven pocket bike in the same price range as a electric one will be faster. Gas driven models will for all intents and purposes be miniature motorcycles with all the tweaking and customization options of full size motorbikes. This makes spare parts for gas driven models much easier and cheaper to come by than electric models. On the other hand electric models will require less maintenance and will avoid the cost of buying gas, which can add up in the long run.

Pocket bikes come with two different types of engines, two stroke or four stroke.

Two stroke vs. Four Stroke

  • A two stroke is lighter and has a better weight to power ratio.
  • A two stroke is easier to repair and less expensive thanks to a simpler design.
  • A two stroke can be placed in any orientation because it lacks an oil sump.
  • A two stroke fires once every revolution, a four stroke fires every other revolution.
  • A four stroke is more resistant to wear and tear thanks to a dedicated lubrication system.
  • A four stroke does not require premix of oil.
  • A four stroke if more fuel efficient and better for the environment.
  • A four stroke is quieter.

Super Pocket Bikes

Super pocket bikes might sound better or faster than lets say a mini moto. But the expression super pocket bike just mean that the pocket bike is made to resemble a full size superbike.

This usually means that the bike is focused on acceleration and speed on asphalt, it will have plastic covers to reduce wind resistance and it will have a low ground clearance.

A super pocket bike can be slow or really fast depending on its specifications. Of course it will still gain all the benefits of a bike built or speed, lower wind resistance and the ability to make quick turns. If you want to race a powerful super pocket bike would be an ideal vehicle.

On the other hand it will probably be a bad choice if you want to do jumps or intensive stunts since it expensive to replace the plastic parts which break easily.

A super pocket bike can sometimes be slightly more expensive than a “naked” pocket bike.

Pocket rocket is a synonym for a super pocket bike.

Mini Pocket Bikes

A mini pocket bike will be smaller than an average pocket bike. Usually among the cheapest of pocket bikes, these make nice beginner bikes for children.
